JPG vs PNG: Which Format Should You Use?
Updated 2026-08-05
JPG is usually best for photographs because it keeps file sizes small with acceptable visual quality.
PNG is better for screenshots, UI graphics and images that need sharp edges or transparency.
If you need both small size and modern browser support, WebP is often a strong middle ground.
Convert intentionally: use JPG to PNG when you need cleaner edits, and PNG to JPG when you need a smaller photo for sharing.
